Aa 117 Within the education sector, there is a high demand for qualified teaching professionals. From primary school teachers to university professors, teaching is full of ambitious and enthusiastic individuals who not only want to educate, but also become champions of future dreams of young people and adults alike.

At Astra SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) we work with over 60 primary and secondary partner schools and other local education providers across Buckinghamshire and beyond. Now in our tenth year, over 500 teachers have been awarded QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) with us. We aim to provide training and school placements that are carefully tailored to meet individual needs.

We offer a school-led ‘on the job’ programme with access to professional studies in order to gain your QTS and PGCE. We are able to offer part-time training on our primary routes and many of our secondary courses. We offer places both on salaried and bursary-led/unsalaried routes.

One of the great benefits to the Astra route is the blend of school based learning along with weekly professional studies (training). Working with Bath Spa University we also offer the PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) qualification. Astra’s programme is tailored towards teaching in schools in the local area. Training approaches include seminars and lectures, trainee presentations and assignments. The course is backed up by educational research, along with practical classroom based training. All trainees are supported by experienced school based mentors throughout the course, who will help trainees develop the knowledge and skills to become a confident, credible and successful classroom teacher.

We have over 90% employment and completion rates for all years to date. With the majority of our trainees securing employment in schools within Buckinghamshire.

Our aim is to undertake everything with integrity to provide the very best teacher training and education, so that trainees are able to become an expert teacher, with an outstanding understanding of their specialist area.
